Careys Secret Garden
Learn about the fascinating world of edible and poisonous mushrooms.species with John Rensten. Join us for a morning of wild mushroom hunting in the woodlands and grounds of Carey's Secret Garden for a 3-hour wild mushroom walk led by Dorset resident John Rensten, author of The Edible City-A Year of Wild Food and founder of Forage London. The morning will include wild mushroom identification as well as collecting a few edible species. Learn the basics of safely identifying edible and poisonous mushroom species and get an understanding of how these amazing organisms protect, regulate and manage the forest ecosystem.
‘John’s foraging course was hands-on, informative, and a real sensory experience! I really enjoyed the course and his passion.’ Brie O’Keefe
A note from John: Please be advised before booking, some of our mushroom forays may not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties so if in any doubt please email us in advance. In addition, please be aware that although these events run for approximately 3 hours, that could easily turn out to be 4 hours instead, so I urge you not to book a posh lunch somewhere timed precisely to coincide with the end of the walk, give yourself plenty of leeway.
What to bring:
Wear suitable clothing and footwear for the Great British weather! You are welcome to bring drinks and snacks, but you do not need to bring baskets to collect Mushrooms in as we will be doing this together as a group. We require two full weeks notice in order to cancel and receive a refund.
The Secret Salt Pig will be open for refreshments before and after the course, we will not be taking a break halfway through. Please arrive by 10.15am ready to set off at 10.30am.
