Garden Members Exclusive Osprey Tours

As a special thank you to all of our garden members for their ongoing support, we are delighted to offer a small selection of 'members-only' Osprey viewing opportunities at Careys.

The Carey Osprey Tours are run in partnership with Careys Secret Garden, hosted at their secluded site near Wareham, offering a unique viewing experience of the local Osprey nest where pair CJ7 and 022 have returned for the third year. Tickets include an in-depth 2-hour guided tour up to the Carey Osprey nest viewing platform, with the opportunity to learn more about the Poole Harbour Osprey Project from your guide, as well as access to the stunning walled garden and its facilities for the duration of the day (from 10am-4pm). The viewing platform is situated 350m away from the nest to ensure the birds are not disturbed, so we will have plenty of binoculars and telescopes on hand if you haven't got your own. 

Please make sure to book in advance as there are only 12 tickets available per session and there is no alternative access onsite for viewing the nest. Please help us protect the birds by not turning up to Careys Secret Garden without booking, and not straying away from the permitted areas to try and view the Ospreys. The nest site is incredibly sensitive and Ospreys are a Schedule 1 species which means they are protected by law. We therefore ask that you are mindful not to disturb the birds and avoid attempting to get closer to the nest as this will risk the success of this very important nesting pair. We’re privileged to be able to now share this space with these birds, and ensuring their safety is our top priority.

Please be aware that the tour involves a 1km round walk on uneven ground with a moderate incline, so we advise wearing sturdy shoes.
Directions to Careys Secret Garden are included on your ticket. Please note that you are not required to print your ticket as we will use a digital guestlist for checking you in.
Please ensure to arrive at the meeting point in the walled garden 15 minutes before your tour, where you will be greeted by a member of the BoPH team.
There are toilet facilities and a small cafe (the Secret Salt Pig!) onsite.
We are currently working to improve disabled access for our Osprey tours, but due to the incline and ground condition unfortunately the route to the Osprey platform is not suitable for wheelchair access.
