Careys Secret Garden

These 'Foraging Basket' making workshops are accessible to beginners or improvers. Enjoy this day workshop in the beautiful backdrop of Carey’s Secret Garden, whilst learning the ancient and sustainable craft of basket making.

Make a large foraging/flower basket similar to the one in the photo, to use for collecting wild mushrooms and berries…or produce from your garden (perfect to bring along for a Carey's Foraging Course). You will learn several different weaves and then you can get creative by choosing your own combination of natural willow colours. Then complete your basket with a beautiful tactile wrapped handle to take home.

Event leader, Yanina Stockings has been inspired by nature, after growing up in the Highlands of Scotland surrounded by the ancient Caledonian pine forests. With a BSc. Hons in conservation, sustainability is important and all of her willow and rush is sourced here in the south of England and where possible Yanina harvests her own locally. She trained as a teacher at Southampton University in 2009 and now runs many varied willow workshops making this ancient rural craft accessible to everyone. Further information can be found on her website.

A hot drink will be provided but please bring your own lunch or purchase a delicious light lunch, cake, or ice cream from the Secret Salt Pig.

COVID-19 -If a workshop has to be rescheduled due to a change in Covid circumstances, a rebooking voucher will be offered. Excluding the above, all bookings are non-refundable.
